Rosa Adora - Growing and Arranging Garden Roses

  • Duke's of West Barns 5 Duke Street Dunbar, Scotland, EH42 1UR United Kingdom (map)

Studio Seapink x Mill Pond Flower Farm

Roses, roses, roses - climbing, rambling or shrub - we just can’t get enough of them. Not only do they look incredible in the garden and can be great for wildlife too, roses are the ultimate cut flower. Inspired by our combined love of the exquisite shapes, colours and scents of β€˜proper’ garden roses, this day workshop will be a celebration and a deep dive into our favourite flower.

Based on 20 years of our combined experience in growing flowers ecologically and of sustainable floristry, Paula of Mill Pond Flower Farm and Jenny of Studio Seapink will lead you into their world of garden roses, to inspire you and develop your skills in growing and in floristry, whatever your prior experience. Mid June is the perfect time to experience Paula’s first flush of roses - and there will be plenty of roses in which to bury your noses!

This workshop will include:

  • Roses in our Scottish gardens - what roses grow well in Scotland and tips on the best varieties to grow for scent, colour and for benefit to wildlife as well as for cutting

  • Where (and how!) to plant them and look after them so they produce great flowers year after year and how to promote plant health naturally without chemicals

  • What plants to grow to combine with roses in the garden and in arrangements

  • Best techniques for cutting stems and pruning

  • Conditioning for vibrant blooms in the vase and for maximum vase life

  • How to arrange with garden grown roses to show them at their best and combine them with other complimentary flowers and foliage

  • Learn how to create a beautiful bowl arrangement and posy to take away

All materials and equipment will be provided and refreshments will be freely available throughout. Following the workshop, you’ll leave with the knowledge and confidence to grow and arrange your own roses as cut flowers, as well as your own floral arrangement and posy.

We’ll be hosting this workshop at Duke’s of West Barns, a gorgeous new gallery, cafe & studio space in Dunbar which is in a fantastic location close to Belhaven Bay, with ample parking. Lunch can be ordered in the venue’s own cafe or alternatively please bring your own packed lunch.
