  • Duke's of West Barns 5 Duke Street Dunbar, Scotland, EH42 1UR United Kingdom (map)

Is there anything more satisfying than arranging flowers you’ve grown yourself, while knowing that in the process you’re helping garden pollinators too? From a window box to a full garden plot, you can grow flowers to support wildlife, to enjoy outdoors and to cut for some beautiful home arranging too. And it’s easier than you think! Let Paula of Mill Pond Flower Farm and Jenny of Studio Seapink show you how in this full day workshop.

Based on 20 years of our combined experience in growing flowers ecologically and of sustainable floristry, we will lead you step by step from β€˜seed to vase’, developing your skills in growing and floristry, whatever your prior experience. Early May is the perfect time to get sowing outdoors - for flowers to enjoy and arrange for this year and beyond.

This workshop will include:

  • How to approach your growing space to get great results

  • Flower farmer methods in use in your garden e.g. to get the best seed germination, crop timing, spacings and strategies for growing flowers for cutting in our Scottish climate without chemicals

  • Tips on the best flowering plants to grow to support pollinators and other wildlife too

  • Suggestions for year round plants for cutting as well as garden interest

  • How to cut and condition flowers and foliage to get the best vase life, including specific tips for tricky varieties

  • Learning how to create beautiful vase arrangements and bouquets, with tips on working with the unique character of garden grown flowers and foliage through the seasons

  • Making your own arrangement with flowers from Mill Pond Flower Farm to take away

You’ll leave inspired, full of knowledge and confidence to grow and arrange your own cut flowers, plus your own floral arrangement and some seeds to start you off at home. All materials will be provided and refreshments will be available throughout.

We’ll be hosting this workshop at Duke’s of West Barns, a gorgeous new gallery, cafe & studio space in Dunbar which is in a fantastic location close to Belhaven Bay, with ample parking. Lunch can be ordered in the venue’s own cafe or alternatively please bring your own packed lunch.
